Healing your mark
A great tattoo is only as good as its aftercare. Follow these steps carefully — your skin and your artwork will thank you.
Keep it covered
Leave the protective wrap on for the time Gabriel advises (usually 2–4 hours). This keeps bacteria out while the skin begins to heal. Remove it only to clean.
Wash gently
Wash your hands first. Then rinse the tattoo with lukewarm water and a small amount of unscented, antibacterial soap. Pat dry with a clean paper towel — never rub. Repeat 2–3 times daily.
Moisturize lightly
After washing, apply a very thin layer of the recommended fragrance-free ointment or lotion. A little goes a long way — the skin should look hydrated, not greasy. Over-moisturizing can cause issues.
What to avoid
- Direct sunlight and tanning beds
- Submerging in water (baths, pools, lakes, hot tubs)
- Picking, scratching, or peeling flaking skin
- Tight or abrasive clothing over the tattoo
- Heavy sweating / intense workouts for the first few days
- Scented lotions, alcohol-based products, or petroleum jelly
